Shining Stars supports young adults with learning disabilities and behavioural support needs to enjoy activities, access their community and develop independence.
Our approach is built around the individual: their interests, their goals and the support they need to take part.
Our 1:1 service provides one young adult with dedicated support from one supervisor.
Sessions can focus on favourite activities, exploring new places or practising everyday skills. Individual support gives each person the opportunity to move at their own pace and work towards goals that matter to them.
Our small group service brings together three young adults with one supervisor.
Shared activities provide opportunities to practise social skills, spend time with others and build friendships. We keep groups small and discuss each person’s needs to consider whether this arrangement is suitable.
We help young adults become more confident taking part in community life.
This can include visiting local attractions, enjoying leisure activities, attending social events and becoming familiar with different places.
Our aim is to make getting out and about an enjoyable experience, with support that encourages participation and choice.
Learning to travel more confidently can be an important step towards independence.
We support young adults to practise skills such as:
Support is adapted to the individual’s abilities, needs and goals.
We create opportunities for young adults to meet others, share experiences and develop their confidence in social situations.
Activities can help young adults practise communication, taking turns, making choices and spending time together.
Friendships develop in their own time, and our role is to support positive opportunities for connection.
Activities and Days Out
We offer a variety of activities to suit different interests, including:
Activities are discussed in advance and planned around support needs, interests and suitability.
Where agreed, Shining Stars can support young adults to attend workplace learning opportunities provided by separate organisations.
One example is Sunnyside, a separate company offering workplace learning for young adults with learning disabilities. Shining Stars provides support to attend; Sunnyside delivers its own workplace learning programme.
Support is available during the day, in the evenings and at weekends, subject to availability.
We offer seven-hour days and are happy to discuss shorter or longer options.
Get in touch to tell us about the support you are looking for. We can discuss interests, goals, availability and whether individual or small group support would be suitable.
